How does an initial consultation with a psychoanalyst unfold ?

Listening

When a person chooses to consult a professional to be helped, his primary need is to feel welcomed and listened, the time needed, so to be able to express.

The psychoanalyst offers this time and listening.

Assessment

At the end of the first consultation, after listening actively (the psychoanalyst speaks, asks questions to understand further, offers its thinking, interpretations and so on), the psychoanalyst will report on what we have him spontaneously reported, otherwise. It will re-organize our words, will put them in echo, in question, according to one or several perspectives.

Advice

At the end of the first, second or third meeting, the psychoanalyst confirmed or not, the relevance of psychotherapy. If attendance is recommended, the psychoanalyst sets out details (frequency, duration, price, conditions etc.) sessions. He recommends either:
- Attendance to a few sessions. Attendance sufficient to foil a problem identified in the patient’s life
- Attendance to an analytical psychotherapy
- Attendance to psychoanalysis
